Robert Indiana (born Robert Clark; September 13, 1928 – May 19, 2018) was an American artist associated with the pop art movement. In 1965, his now iconic “LOVE” was first introduced by the Museum of Modern Art who had commissioned Robert Indiana to design a Christmas card. This design would serve as the template for subsequent iterations on canvas and sculpture, and in 1973 was celebrated as a United States postage stamp. It has become one of the most recognizable pop art-inspired images of all time.
